Performance Horse Events At The 2020 Sun Circuit

Performance horse enthusiasts have plenty to love about the 2020 Sun Circuit which roars into Scottsdale’s WestWorld  February 29-March 8, 2020. There is a full slate of Reining, Roping, Cutting and Cow Horse classes along with special events with sizable added money. Jason and Nikki Hershberger will be holding their 15th Annual Sale on Friday February 28th, 2020 in the Equidome at WestWorld. Sun Circuit is thrilled to have this prestigious sale kicking off 10 days of equestrian excitement. The sale starts at 4:00 PM. There will be a preview on Thursday afternoon with a jackpot roping. Friday the preview will start at noon with roping and cow horse.

The Sun Circuit ARHFA Rope Horse Futurity gets underway on the 29th with $15,000 added to the Open Futurity for 4, 5 and 6 year olds. A Limited division in the Open offers $5,000 added.  That competition will be followed by a Maturity for 7, 8 or 9 Year Olds. On March 3rd, the Cinch Non-Pro Heading and Heeling has $5,000 added to the pot.

The ARHFA has agreed to enter any horses that are purchased in the Hershberger sale without a late fee if the buyer wishes.

Eric and Wendy Dunn are once again sponsoring the $20,000 added Smart Boons Fence Challenge on Friday March 6.The best Cow Horses in the nation will show off their athletic skills in an exciting matchup of superlative fence work. 100% of $300 entry fee will be combined with added money and paid back. This formula has produced some hefty payouts in years past. Additionally, $5,000 will be paid to the highest placing NRCHA limited open rider in the open division.

Got Cow? You can prove it at Sun Circuit. Farnam is the proud sponsor of the Farnam Golden Cowboy award this year and is adding $5,000 to the payout, plus the $250 entry fee is 100% jackpotted. This award recognizes the top hand after scores from 4 judges in 4 cattle classes are tallied. Horse and rider must enter the Farnam Golden Cowboy Herd Work on Saturday, Muley Steer Stopping on Tuesday, Jr. or Sr. Cow Horse on Wednesday and ultimately the Smart Boons Fence Challenge on Friday.

Amateur Cow Horse exhibitors also have a shot at some cash in the $1,000 Added Parkinson Performance Horses Amateur Spectacular and the Anchor Cross Ranch Amateur Boxing Spectacular with $1,000 added. Champions in each Spectacular also receive a Buckle and the reserve will take home a bronc halter.

All new for 2020 Ranch Horse competitors is  the L1 Open Ranch Horse Award, Sponsored by Oraz Holdings, which awards  $500 and a trophy buckle to the Champion with the Reserve place receiving a saddle pad and $250. Points are counted from L1 Ranch Trail, L1 Ranch Riding, L1 Ranch on Rail, plus halter.

Other performance class awards include Best of Show – Ranch and Cattle Division for  Open, Amateur or Select and Youth. Champions will receive a pair of Rod Patrich Ostrich boots. A Caliente Saddle Shop saddle will be awarded to the High Point All-Ages Team Roper. There are also All Breed VRH high point awards for both Open and Amateur, with each receiving a Superior Saddlery Saddle. More saddles will be awarded to Circuit Champions in Reining and Cow Horse.
